True Market Leader Andriod or iOS
True Market Leader Andriod or iOS

Google is a services-driven ad business that makes more money as more people use its services — and use them more often. By giving away an open source operating system that, among other things, helps hardware makers set lower prices, Google ensures maximum exposure to the maximum number of mobile users. Android gets users locked into Google, which lets Google show them more ads. In short, Google wins.

Apple, meanwhile, is a design-driven hardware business. By meticulously crafting a coveted premium device, Apple gets people to line up days in advance every year to buy record numbers of new iPhones that sometimes show only incremental improvements to the previous year’s model. Such an approach only works, however, if Apple keeps its system closed, its game tight. Compromising its design principles by allowing outside developers to build on its platform would strip Apple of its core value proposition. This time around, by keeping itself closed, Apple is still winning.

Android is big in tablets. The problem is that no one has a clue how big it is. While Apple happily reports its rising unit sales for tablets, Samsung and other major Android distributors keep mum. Hence, we're largely left in the dark as to just how many Android tablets are being bought and used.

But developers may help us understand Android's market penetration.

Android's 'Dark Matter'

By some estimates, Android will claim as much as 65% of the tablet market in 2014. IDC puts the number a bit lower, but by any estimate Android is booming.

As in smartphones, Android adoption is on overdrive due to giving consumers, particularly in developing markets, a low-cost alternative to Apple's premium pricing. Commenting on Android's rise, Canalys senior analyst Tim Coulling argues that "Apple’s decline in PC market share [which includes tablets] is unavoidable when considering its business model."
Well, maybe.
IDC Analysis about Andriod and iOS,

The problem is counting Android accurately. Asymco analyst Horace Dediu, commenting on Benedict Evans' analysis of Android use, highlights the difficulty in getting an accurate read on Android tablet adoption:
There are no firms which report their shipments They are not sold through retail chains which normally are sampled in the US and Europe (NPD and GfK respectively.)
They don’t show up in browsing or ad transaction data
Google Play statistics are missing most of the activations since they are not sold as bona fide Google-sanctioned Android.

Not long ago Apple announced that developers had minted $13 billion selling apps for the iOS platform. Google doesn't report similar data for Android, in part because it can't due to the fragmented Android ecosystem, but Business Insider has compiled its own statistics, which show Android well behind iOS but closing the gap:
BI Analysis about Andriod and iOS,
BI Analysis about Andriod and iOS,

Android developers are likely to get paid even more going forward, as Google has significantly ratcheted up its efforts to improve monetization for Android developers. Indeed, speaking at Google I/O earlier this year, Google's VP of Android product management Hugo Barra told I/O attendees that Google had paid more to Android developers in the 4 months leading up to I/O than the previous 12 months before that combined.opers.

IDC Analysis

Apple may have shipped a record number of iOS devices during the most recent quarter, according to analysts at IDC. But the real story is the utter dominance of Android, which is gobbling so much market share that Apple could soon find itself in the single digits.

KOTLER Interview - World Famous Person Known For Marketing Management

Philip Kotler, has been cited as the world’s foremost expert on the strategic practice of marketing and is the S.C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing at the Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management near Chicago. Kotler is widely recognized as having written the most authoritative textbook on marketing: Marketing Management.

Interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself and why marketing became such a big factor in your life.

I am an economist trained at the University of Chicago (M.A.) and MIT (Ph.D.). Three of my professors were Nobel Prize economists–Milton Friedman, Paul Samuelson, and Robert Solow. I had hoped to move along the same path of researching and teaching economics. However, I felt that classical economists neglected several of the major forces shaping demand. Classical economists mainly discussed the role of price in shaping and being shaped by demand and supply. I kept asking: what about the role of Product (features, quality, reliability), Place (wholesalers, retailers, agents), and Promotion (advertising, sales promotion, public relations) in shaping demand and supply. When I participated in a year-long Ford Foundation program at Harvard in advanced mathematics, I met some marketing professors and realized that the discipline of marketing was the missing link in economic theory and practice. In 1967, I wrote my first edition of Marketing Management (now in the 14th edition) that was the first marketing textbook to incorporate economic theory, mathematics, social psychology and organization theory in the same book.

After describing how markets work and how consumers, middlemen and producers make decisions, I began to recognize that the tools of marketing apply to more than commercial transactions. I led a movement called the Broadening of the Marketing Concept. I realized that an art museum needs marketing skills if it is to attract visitors, members, private donors, and government grants; a blood bank needs marketing skills if it is to attract enough blood donors; Friends of the Earth needs marketing skills to convince consumers and businesses to protect the fragile environment and planet, a city needs marketing skills if it is to attract tourists, new residents, factories and company headquarters, and a gifted singer who want to be recognized nationally needs to hire a marketer to help her reach new audiences and delight them. I had researched these challenging areas and published on them in such books as Museum Strategy and Marketing, Social Marketing, Marketing of Places, High Visibility, Good Works, and other books.

I find marketing endlessly interesting and challenging. A market is never stationary. Companies like Kodak, Sears, Nokia, Research in Motion (RIM), and others failed to identify the disruptive forces swirling around them and manage to react in time. Marketers can never sleep at the steering wheel without crashing.

Peter Oborne Tells Story About Pakistan

Peter Oborne Tells Story About Pakistan
Peter Oborne Tells Story About Pakistan

Are we wrong about Pakistan?

When Peter Oborne first arrived in Pakistan, he expected a 'savage' back water scarred by terrorism. Years later, he describes the Pakistan that is barely documented - and that he came to fall in love with

It was my first evening in Pakistan. My hosts, a Lahore banker and his charming wife, wanted to show me the sights, so they took me to a restaurant on the roof of a town house in the Old City.
My food was delicious, the conversation sparky – and from our vantage point we enjoyed a perfect view of the Badshahi Mosque, which was commissioned by the emperor Aurangzeb in 1671.
It was my first inkling of a problem. I had been dispatched to write a report reflecting the common perception that Pakistan is one of the most backward and savage countries in the world. This attitude has been hard-wired into Western reporting for years and is best summed up by the writing of the iconic journalist Christopher Hitchens. Shortly before he died last December, Hitchens wrote a piece in Vanity Fair that bordered on racism.
Pakistan, he said, was “humourless, paranoid, insecure, eager to take offence and suffering from self-righteousness, self-pity and self-hatred”. In summary, asserted Hitchens, Pakistan was one of the “vilest and most dangerous regions on Earth”.
Since my first night in that Lahore restaurant I have travelled through most of Pakistan, got to know its cities, its remote rural regions and even parts of the lawless north. Of course there is some truth in Hitchens’s brash assertions. Since 2006 alone, more than 14,000 Pakistani civilians have been killed in terrorist attacks. The Pakistan political elite is corrupt, self-serving, hypocritical and cowardly – as Pakistanis themselves are well aware. And a cruel intolerance is entering public discourse, as the appalling murder last year of minorities minister Shahbaz Bhatti after he spoke out for Christians so graphically proves. Parts of the country have become impassable except at risk of kidnap or attack.
Peter Oborne Tells Story About Pakistan
Peter Oborne Tells Story About Pakistan
Yet the reality is far more complex. Indeed, the Pakistan that is barely documented in the West – and that I have come to know and love – is a wonderful, warm and fabulously hospitable country. And every writer who (unlike Hitchens), has ventured out of the prism of received opinion and the suffocating five-star hotels, has ended up celebrating rather than denigrating Pakistan.

  • 10) BlackBerry Z1
  • 11) BlackBerry Q10
In a poll of 9,004 uSwitch Tech users, 27.65% (2,490 people) named Apple’s latest flagship smartphone the finest slab of cellular gold to land this year.

  • That meant the Cupertino tech giant pipped Samsung’s own blockbuster device to the top spot, with the Galaxy S4 overcoming the odd lukewarm review in the tech press to claim a £25.21% share (2,270 votes) and nestle in at second position.
The battle for third place was even more hard-fought. But in the shakedown, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 nicked the bronze medal with 11.78% (1,061 votes).
HTC’s much-garlanded One, which picked up the best design gong at the 2013 uSwitch Tech awards, was fourth with 11.26% (1014). And rounding off the top five with 6.95% (626 votes) was the handset that put Sony back on the map, the Sony Xperia Z1.

But while Apple once again topped the survey, the tidings for the purveyor of iOS-powered kit don’t all augur well. To say the least.
In a reflection of the iPhone 5C’s disappointing reception at cash registers, the mid-range iPhone garnered just 2.14% or 193 votes.
The upshot was that the handset that pre-release hype suggested would surely dramatically swing the smartphone market in Apple’s favour polled fewer votes than even the Nokia Lumia 1020, which nabbed 4.84% (4.84%).
It was also trumped by the Google Nexus 5 with 5.12% (462 votes). That’s notable and not a little worrying for Apple given that the Nexus 5 launched much later and, as is the way with Nexus devices, has only been granted a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it promotional push.
Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at uSwitch.com, said: "These results speak volumes as to both the enduring popularity of the iPhone, as well as the hugely positive reaction from customers to the Galaxy S4.
"Critics might have found the S4 packed with gimmicks rather than must-have features, but sales have been massive and – in conjunction with a strong phablet sequel in the Note 3 - taken Samsung from strength to strength in 2013.
"An interesting point to note is the relatively lacklustre showing from Apple’s iPhone 5C, with its premium pricing unexpectedly making the 5S more appealing as a luxury device.
"Whilst the flagship effort topped sales charts and polls alike, a modest placing for the iPhone 5C shows that Apple still has a way to go in courting the trendsetters of tomorrow."

Fitness and Estimating your "Fitness Age" - A Research by Norwegian University

Trying to quantify your aerobic fitness is a daunting task. It usually requires access to an exercise-physiology lab. But researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim have developed a remarkably low-tech means of precisely assessing aerobic fitness and estimating your “fitness age,” or how well your body functions physically, relative to how well it should work, given your age.
The researchers evaluated almost 5,000 Norwegians between the ages of 20 and 90, using mobile labs. They took about a dozen measurements, including height, body mass index, resting heart rate, HDL and total cholesterol levels. Each person also filled out a lengthy lifestyle questionnaire. Finally, each volunteer ran to the point of exhaustion on a treadmill to pinpoint his or her peak oxygen intake (VO2 max), or how well the body delivers oxygen to its cells. VO2 max has been shown in large-scale studies to closely correlate with significantly augmented life spans, even among the elderly or overweight. In other words, VO2 max can indicate fitness age.
Fitness and Estimating your "Fitness Age" - A Research by Norwegian University
Fitness and Estimating your "Fitness Age"  - A Research by   Norwegian University

In order to figure out how to estimate VO2 max without a treadmill, the scientists combed through the results to determine which of the data points were most useful. You might expect that the most taxing physical tests would yield the most reliable results. Instead, the researchers found that putting just five measurements — waist circumference; resting heart rate; frequency and intensity of exercise; age; and sex — into an algorithm allowed them to predict a person’s VO2 max with noteworthy accuracy, according to their study, published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.
The researchers used the data set to tabulate the typical, desirable VO2 max for a healthy person at every age from 20 to 90, creating specific parameters for fitness age. The concept is simple enough, explains Ulrik Wisloff, the director of the K. G. Jebsen Center of Exercise in Medicine at the Norwegian University and the senior author of the study. “A 70-year-old man or woman who has the peak oxygen uptake of a 20-year-old has a fitness age of 20,” he says. He has seen just this combination during his research.
The researchers have used all of this data to create an online calculatorthat allows people to determine their VO2 max without going to a lab. You’ll need your waist measurement and your resting heart rate. To determine it, sit quietly for 10 minutes and check your pulse; count for 30 seconds, double the number and you have your resting heart rate. Plug these numbers, along with your age, sex and frequency and intensity of exercise, into the calculator, and you’ll learn your fitness age.
The results can be sobering. A 50-year-old man, for instance, who exercises moderately a few times a week, sports a 36-inch waist and a resting heart rate of 75 — not atypical values for healthy middle-aged men — will have a fitness age of 59. Thankfully, unwanted fitness years, unlike the chronological kind, can be erased, Dr. Wisloff says. Exercise more frequently or more intensely. Then replug your numbers and exult as your “age” declines. A youthful fitness age, Dr. Wisloff says, “is the single best predictor of current and future health.”

Double Internet Speed Offer By PTCL 2MB Internet Works as 4MB Limited Time Offer

PTCL has announced that it is upgrading its 2 MB broadband DSL costumers to 4MB for free.

The promotion will allow 2 MB users to enjoy double speeds of 4MB speeds for same rates, i.e. at Rs. 1,549 per month till December 31st, 2013, after which customers will have to pay the regular 4MB charges which are Rs. 1,999 per month.
PTCL said that it is automatically upgrading all customers, however, those who would not want to keep 4MB speeds can opt out of promotion by calling 1236.
This is not the first time that PTCL has upgraded its existing customers. However, the practice of automatically upgrading the speeds has seen criticism in the past. Customers are usually of the opinion that company should not upgrade speeds if the promotion is for limited time.

How to Create Big Crowd in Movies See the Secret

Over the course of time, science and technology have progressed quite a lot and we can see its effects in most of the practical fields. Pick up any field and you’ll be amazed at how much it has benefited from the advancements in science and technology. However, often these improvements are too expensive; for example, let’s talk about Computer Generated Imagery a.k.a. CGI. It looks very impressive but at the same time it is quite expensive. What to do in such scenarios?
Let’s be more particular, say you are filming a movie and need to portray a large crowd in your movie. What would you do? Employ the use of CGI and use up your resources? Or will you hire extras and spend the next few days trying to make them understand what the scene requires and how they are screwing it up? Not to mention that hiring such a large number of extras will cost you quite dearly too.
This is what led to the creation of The Inflatable Crowd Company. They started working about 11 years back in 2002 when Hollywood movie; Sea Biscuit required a crowd of thirty thousand to be shown on the big screen. How did they manage? They came up with an alternative to CGI and extras; mannequins. Mannequins who are made of plastic, inflatable and can be made to look like a real crowd.
How to Do Big Crowd Scenes 3After the success in the first project, this idea has been employed in a number of movies which include Spiderman 3, The King’s Speech and American Gangster. Apart from being used in around 80 movies, these plastic males and females have become the stars of a number of TV shows and commercials as well. These mannequins are first inflated, then dressed and then faces are fitted upon them. Add some lightning and quality camera work and these not-so-real-mannequins look real enough on the screen.

Ex-Nokia employees launching New Phone

A team of ex-Nokia employees has released the first handset running on a new smartphone platform.
The Jolla phone - pronounced Yol-la - is powered by open-source operating system Sailfish, but can run most apps designed for Google's Android platform. The company has paired with a major Finnish netwo
rk, and hopes to set up a similar deal with a UK operator.

Industry analysts said Jolla faced a challenge in taking on a market dominated by Google and Apple.
Just 450 Jolla phones will be available at launch on Wednesday evening, with the majority going to customers who have pre-ordered the device.
Co-founder Marc Dillon told the BBC the company was in the process of ramping up manufacturing.
He said the phone's ethos was to provide a more "open" approach to how people used their mobiles, a contrast to the relatively closed systems used on the iPhone and, to a lesser extent, Android devices.
"There's different opportunities for people to get apps form different places, different stores," he said.
"We've created a world-class platform. Users will be getting more choice."

The platform - originally called MeeGo - was developed by Nokia, but dumped in 2011 in favour of the company adopting the Windows Phone system.
Nokia released just one handset running the software, the N9-00.
Antti Saarnio, chairman and co-founder of Jolla, told the BBC in May that MeeGo - now called Sailfish - had not been given enough chance to succeed.
"Everybody felt so strongly that they wanted to continue," he said.
Large parts of the Sailfish code were open-source, which meant anyone could expand and adapt the platform, Mr Dillon said.
"We are ramping up our Jolla community right now.
"There's already a Sailfish website so that developers can come and contribute."
David v Goliath According to CCS Insight, 81% of smartphones shipped globally from July to September ran Google's Android software. Apple's iOS accounted for 13%.
Smaller players such as Blackberry, Microsoft and Mozilla made up the numbers.
Analyst Geoff Blaber, from CCS, said while it might seem Jolla was taking on an impossibly large challenge by trying to muscle in, its strategy could pay off.
Jolla smartphone The smartphone has interchangeable back panels that alter the phone's software
"It's easy to characterise this as David v Goliath," he told the BBC. "But the fact is if Jolla can maintain a competitive cost base, there is already an enthusiast base seeking this product. It could be successful."
But Mr Blaber added the handset was a means to an end, and that Jolla's long-term strategy was to create a operating system it could licence to other manufacturers.
"This is the challenge," he said.
"At the moment we have a situation where Android is utterly dominant. They've got to prove the software is competitive and it works."
Jolla may also be buoyed by support in its home country as a result of Microsoft's planned buy-out of Nokia.
Jolla co-founder Mr Dillion said he was getting "stopped everywhere I go".
"We're not trying to piggy-back, but we have seen a bump," said Mr Dillon. "We've had a lot of support in Finland."
Mr Blaber added: "This is the 'what might have been' scenario had Nokia not gone down the Microsoft road with Windows Phone."

Pakistan Blocks NATO Supply Line

Pakistan Blocks NATO Supply Line
Pakistani activists have blocked the main supply route for provisions destined for Nato troops in Afghanistan to protest against US drone strikes.
Opposition politician Imran Khan called for the action and said it would continue until American drone attacks in north-west Pakistan came to an end.
He blames the drones for causing civilian deaths and for crushing any chance of peace with the Taliban.
But the timing of the campaign has led many to accuse him of appeasement.

China to land first Jade Rabbit Moon probe next month

Chinese officials say they intend to land the country's first unmanned probe on the Moon next month.
The probe has been named Yutu or "Jade Rabbit", after the character that Chinese folklore says lives on the Moon's surface.
In recent years, China has made considerable progress in its space programme.

In June, three Chinese astronauts spent 15 days in orbit and docked their craft with an experimental space laboratory.
In 2007, the country despatched an unmanned spacecraft called Chang'e to orbit the Moon.
The craft stayed in space for 16 months before being intentionally crashed on to the Moon's surface.
A specific date for the latest launch, first announced in August, has not been given but officials said on Tuesday that it would happen in early December.
If all goes according to plan, the lunar probe will land on the Moon sometime in the middle of the month.
A landing vehicle will carry the rover, which will explore an area called the Bay of Rainbows, surveying the surface over three months.
The name Jade Rabbit was chosen after an online poll in which millions took part.
China sent its first astronaut into space in 2003, becoming the third country after Russia and the United States to achieve manned space travel independently.
The military-backed space programme is a source of national pride.

China and USA are in a big cold from many years, but it seems it will bulged out in the future years as, China is growing leader of World Financials.

Defying orders from Beijing, a pair of B-52 bombers fly over the Senkaku Islands without informing China on Monday. The islands have been a source of tension between China and Japan for decades

The US has flown two B-52 bombers over disputed islands in the East China Sea in defiance of new Chinese air defence rules, officials say.
China set up its "air defence identification zone" on Saturday insisting that aircraft obey its rules or face "emergency defensive measures".
A Pentagon spokesman said the planes had followed "normal procedures".
The islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, are a source of rising tension between the two nations.
Japan has dismissed the Chinese defence zone as "not valid at all" and two of its biggest airlines announced on Tuesday they would abide by a request from the government in Tokyo not to implement the new rules.
'Normal procedures' "We have conducted operations in the area of the Senkakus," said US Colonel Steve Warren.
"We have continued to follow our normal procedures, which include not filing flight plans, not radioing ahead and not registering our frequencies."
He added that so far there had been no response from China.
The aircraft, which were unarmed, had taken off from Guam on Monday and the flight was part of a regular exercise in the area, a US defence official said.
The US - which has more than 70,000 troops in Japan and South Korea - had previously said it would not abide by the "destabilising" Chinese-imposed zone.

Taif - Summer Resort City OR Rose Capital of Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia, roses are synonymous with the city of Taif, which is internationally famous for agriculture and in particular the cultivation and production of roses, dating back to 100 years. Stretched along the roads and streets of Taif are many vendors displaying cork boxes full of fragrant homegrown roses, fruits and other fresh produce.
In addition, the city produces rose essence and rose water, and every year the municipality and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities organizes a rose festival, which is visited by both local and international tourists.
Rose water is usually filled into large 20 liter glass bottles for a variety of uses, especially for the making of Arabic deserts, and can be added to drinking water.

There are two types of rose water: The ordinary kind that is sold in small glass bottles for SR10 in shops and supermarkets, and a more special type that is known as “Al-Aroosa” (the bride), which is distilled rose water resulting from the production of rose essence. This type is sold in small glass bottles that cost around SR30 and is the most preferred in the Gulf. People use it as a perfume at home and sprinkle it on guests, using traditional dainty rose water pewter sprinklers.

Women also use rose water as part of their beauty regime ever since its beneficial qualities were discovered, such as cleansing of the skin and tightening of the pores.

Taif is a city that offers a rich culture of history. It is situated on the eastern area of Al-Sarawat Mountains. It is known as the summer capital of Saudi Arabia as people escape the summer heat and flock to this cool, lush city that offers beautiful scenery in a relaxed atmosphere.

Taif is also considered the favorite city to escape the hot summer days of Saudi Arabia. Situated atop the Sarawat Mountains, the visitors enjoy the cool weather and delicious fruits. They also make sure they don’t leave this cool, green and fragrant area without taking back home boxes of Taif roses, bottles of rose essence and rose water as mementos of a good and relaxing time spent in the pleasant parks of Al-Hada, Al-Shafa, Al-Ghadeer, and others.
