NEW YORK: Pakistan’s embassy in the United States had issued 26 visas to American diplomats, 1,200 to US Army officials and 2,500 to civilians travelling for Afghanistan during last 15 months, the embassy spokesman told Online.
The spokesman said that since last June to September this year, 12-13,000 Pakistani-Americans were issued visas.
To a question regarding security background, the spokesman said that the Foreign Office approved the issuance of diplomatic visas, while defence department issued clearance for visas to persons related to defence department.
These visas were issued on the request of the US State Department, he said. The spokesman further said that these visas were issued for one-month time and they were issued to those persons who actually wanted to visit Afghanistan but had to stay in Pakistan for a short time.
The spokesman said that the Foreign Office of Pakistan used its discretionary power for issuing visas to VIPs who go on short notice to Pakistan and do not have sufficient time to take permission from it (FO).
